Workshops/Lectures
Sharing my plant knowledge and love of gardening is something I truly enjoy doing. Workshops are held here on my property, weather permitting.
I often give lectures at local garden centers, libraries, and to garden clubs. My lectures can be tailored for a group of any size, using colorful poster boards for small groups, or PowerPoint presentations for larger audiences.
Included in my workshops and lectures are detailed handouts and delicious refreshments (when held at Gardenscapes).
Contact me to arrange a custom workshop or lecture for yourself, a handful of friends, or a larger group.
Gardenscapes Workshop & Lecture Topics
The following are examples of workshops/lectures that are offered:
Dream Your Garden to Life
We all have fond memories of beautiful places we’ve visited, plants and flowers that remind us of times long-passed and cherished people no longer in our lives, and we dream of creating our own places of beauty and retreat. We know what colors we love, what fragrances make our hearts sing, and what our “perfect garden” would contain.
In this workshop, Debbie will lead you through exercises in her beautiful gardens to help you pull all of these thoughts and dreams together to create your own special garden retreat.
Naturescaping: Connecting with Nature in Your Garden
Learn to attract butterflies, songbirds, pollinators and beneficial insects to your garden, and protect valuable wildlife habitat. Debbie will share ways to work in harmony with nature all year long using native plants, organic practices, and fun projects to involve the entire family. Debbie’s property is certified with the National Wildlife Federation as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat™.
Four-Season Gardening
The extensive gardens on Debbie’s 1.25-acre property in Hadley are the inspiration for this workshop.
Learn to design season-spanning gardens that provide interest with easy-care and locally available plants.
Debbie will reveal how to work in a wide variety of plants with three- and four-seasons of interest, colorful needled and broadleaf evergreens, and plants that change color to provide glorious fall hues. She will also address perennial care to ensure continuous bloom and how to plan for winter interest.
Creating a Backyard Wildlife Habitat™ on Your Property
Debbie’s property was certified with the National Wildlife Federation in 2000, and you too can create a property that supports wildlife. In this workshop, learn the four key elements that all wildlife needs and the challenges of dealing with unwanted visitors. Understand which native plants best sustain wildlife and how you can protect valuable habitat on your property. Learn the process for certifying your own property.
Your Own Garden Sanctuary: Creating a Healing Garden
We all need a quiet place to escape to in these busy times. . . a special place to relax, contemplate, and even meditate. Wouldn’t it be nice to take a few steps outside into your own yard and find this sanctuary? Using her own extensive gardens, Debbie will show you how to create a quiet space surrounded by culinary and medicinal herbs, edible plants, and fragrant blooms that you can use to enhance your own wellbeing. Aromatherapy, color therapy, and herbalism topics are worked into this educational workshop.
Multi-Sensory Gardens: Creating a Garden for All the Senses
How much do you really pay attention to and appreciate your senses? Debbie will show you how to elicit a range of sensory responses when creating your garden! We will explore the major elements of a multi-sensory garden, and use color, touch, sound, taste, and smell to select plants and other elements to enrich your garden experience. Cultivate your gardening “sixth sense” in this workshop!
