Healing & Multi-Sensory Gardens

Do you have a quiet place on your property where you can “escape” to and put the stress of the world behind you?

Are there plants that evoke special memories with their fragrance or color?

Do you have a patch of medicinal or culinary herbs that you can pick from to make a calming tea or add nutrients to your meals?

Were there times or places you remember as a child – a special connection with Nature – that can bring you back in time as if it were yesterday?

When I am in my gardens, whether planting, cultivating, or just sitting, it is such a healing and restorative experience for me. As I tend my plants, I know I am cultivating my “inner garden” as well. We all need quiet, special places to escape to today. . . .

The multi-sensory aspects of the garden are so therapeutic, and to experience the many wonders of nature does much for the soul.

Come take a walk with me through my gardens to experience these healing qualities –

Connecting with the wonders of nature in the garden is the best type of free therapy.

You can turn any quiet corner into a garden retreat.

Planning and planting a vegetable patch is a way to connect deeply with Nature. To grow a sugar snap pea from seed and watch it grow until it can be picked to eat is an experience not to be missed.

A garden can be a feast for all of the senses . . .the taste of a tiny, sweet Alpine strawberry is a delightful gift on a warm summer day. To hear the melodic chirping of goldfinches feasting on sunflower seeds calms frayed nerves. To see a bee collecting pollen from flowers evokes such a sense of wonder. Touching a ‘Silver Mound’ artemisia planted by the edge of path can be so soothing.  The smell of crushed thyme under your feet is calming as you walk along garden paths.

Since 1999, I’ve been designing and installing gardens with healing qualities and contemplative places in which to stroll and sit. A healing garden is unique to each individual and the process of creating one can be very therapeutic.  I’d be happy to create a healing space for you.

Whether you are hoping to incorporate a healing space, add some culinary or medicinal herbs, redo an existing garden, or create a new border, I would be happy to meet with you to explore the possibilities with you. I can also provide a coaching session so you can learn how to enjoy the healing aspects of gardening in your own backyard and do the work yourself.  Give me a call to discuss a consultation for your property.
